Why do BMW charge pipes fail?

OEM plastic charge pipes can crack under higher boost pressure, especially on tuned B58, N55, and S55 engines.

Do upgraded charge pipes add power?

They don't add power directly but prevent boost leaks and improve reliability under load.

Is tuning required after installing a charge pipe?

No — charge pipes do not require any ECU changes and are safe on stock software.
